EE has finally given in and launched new 4G and 5G unlimited data plans, following Three and Vodafone. Unlike two out of the three Vodafone plans, EE’s don’t have a speed restriction. They are, however, more expensive.
The new unlimited data price plans start from £34/month on a SIM-only basis, or from £44/month if you’d like access to 5G coverage. If you’re looking for a new handset on a Pay Monthly contract, unlimited plans start from £59/month (or from £64/month with access to 5G).
Other perks include up to 100GB of giftable data (which increases to 120GB on 5G), various swappable benefits, and zero speed restrictions. In other words you get full access to all the speed EE has been bigging up for the past several years, unlike Vodafone with 2Mbps and 10Mbps speed limits.
The following unlimited data SIMs are available from EE:
- EE’s basic 4G unlimited data plan costs £34/month. You’ll get unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data at up to 4G speeds.
- EE’s 4G Smart SIM costs £39/month. You’ll get unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data at up to 4G speeds. You’ll also get 2 Swappable Benefits included.
- EE’s 5G Smart SIM costs £44/month. You’ll get unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data at up to 5G speeds. You’ll also get 3 Swappable Benefits included.
Each of the SIM-only deals is available on a 12-month contract.
If you have multiple lines on your EE account, you can also use the Data Gifting feature to share data with your family members. You’ll get a 100GB giftable data allowance on EE’s unlimited data plans (or 120GB if you choose a 5G Smart handset plan).
Speaking about the plans, Edward Goff, Marketing Director at EE, said:

“Our new unlimited range offers customers the ultimate smartphone experience in more places across the UK than any other network, all with no speed caps and great swappable benefits like Amazon Prime Video and BT Sport.”
EE says their unlimited data plan is for “personal, non-commercial use only”. As such, they have implemented two main limitations to the service. There is also an additional restriction that applies when you travel abroad.
Firstly, it’s possible to use the tethering and personal hotspot functionality of your smartphone to share your unlimited data allowance with other devices. However, EE has limited this to a maximum of 12 devices.
In addition, any data usage above 1,000GB per month (1TB per month) will be considered commercial usage of the service. In this case, EE says they’d reserve the right to move you onto a business plan.
Finally, if you’re travelling abroad outside the UK, a data roaming limit of 15GB per month will apply. Within Europe, you’ll be surcharged at 0.6p/MB if you go over this 15GB per month limit.
