Bsquare Develops New Innovations For Mobile Devices on Android Platform

Company Works with Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects Group

BSQUARE Corporation, a leading enabler of smart connected systems, today announced it is working with Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group on Project Tango – a multi-year project focused on giving mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.

As part of the project Bsquare development teams have made advanced modifications to the Android platform which support applications that can provide real-time augmented reality images of a user’s surroundings. These include modifications to the device’s imaging sub-system to support sophisticated multiple camera processing, advanced depth processing streams, integration of an advanced image co-processor along with precise time syncing to meet real-time performance requirements.

“We’re excited to work with Google’s ATAP group,” said Mark Whiteside, Vice President of Professional Engineering Services at Bsquare. “We love to work with innovative companies like Google to develop game-changing technologies and products. Project Tango is a great example of this.”

In addition to code modification Bsquare was tightly integrated into the Project Tango world-wide development team. Bsquare managed several aspects of this project – ensuring the team met extremely tight schedules and delivered a leading-edge product. In addition, Bsquare played the role of system integrator for key portions of Project Tango and the ATAP group entrusted Bsquare with managing and maintaining the code repositories.
