The Indian government has allowed Huawei to participate in trials for 5G networks, a company spokesman said Monday.
While there have been certain concerns about allowing Chinese network operators to participate in these trials, IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that the government has decided to allow all stakeholders to show use-cases of 5G in India, including China-based networks such as Huawei and ZTE.
The Indian government has been delaying taking a decision on allowing or banning Huawei from the test runs amid a US-led push to shut out the Chinese tech and telecoms group, saying its gear contained “back doors” that would enable China to spy on other countries. Beijing denies such a plan
The telecom department will meet operators on Dec. 31 to confirm the timing for 5G trials, while all wireless operators in India have received in-principle approvals to conduct the trials.Â
