Facebook has suffered another outage of its services a month after a server upgrade left users unable to use its Facebook, WhatsApp or Instagram services for almost a day. Services were restored within hours of reports emerging about the outage.
“Earlier today, some people may have experienced trouble connecting to the family of apps. The issue has since been resolved; we’re sorry for any inconvenience,” said a Facebook spokesman.
The company declined to immediately say whether the problem was another one related to its servers, or other issues.
Facebook said a month ago that a “server configuration change” had caused the longest outage in its history after it denied that it had been the subject of a hack. That service interruption took place only a week after the company set out plans to merge messaging services across the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp apps to allow its users to communicate across the three platforms.
Facebook acquired Instagram for $1bn in 2012 and followed that with a $19bn swoop on WhatsApp in 2014. The sites have been run independently, at least from a consumer perspective, but chief Mark Zuckerberg said in January that he wanted to blur the lines between the three services.
