Samsung appoints Roh Tae-moon new mobile chief

Samsung has appointed Roh Tae-moon, their youngest-ever president at 51, as mobile chief as part of a management reshuffle.

Roh, who joined Samsung in 1997, has played a key role in helping establish the company’s Galaxy S series as a world leader, with millions of devices sold around the world.

Roh led the development of the flagship Galaxy S and Note smartphone series, and was a key force behind the release of Samsung’s foldable phone.

The appointment comes as Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S20 at an event in San Francisco on February 11th.

Roh has been tasked with helping grow Samsung market share in the hugely lucrative markets of China and India, where the company has struggled against the likes of Huawei, Oppo and Vivo.

Koh Dong-jin remains president and CEO of the IM division, which includes the mobile devices and network equipment units, but will focus on a broader role
