DoD approves Biometric Associates smart card reader, bringing BlackBerry 10 Certification

baiMobile 3000MP Bluetooth CAC/PIV reader now approved for BlackBerry 10 devices

Biometric Associates has announced that its 3000MP Bluetooth Smart Card Reader has been approved by the Department of Defense as a Multifunction Mobile Device.

The Risk Management Executive (RME) granted Information Assurance (IA) certification on 24 Aug 2015 based on compliance testing by the DISA Risk Management Executive (RME).

The baiMobile 3000MP Bluetooth Smart Card reader is designed to support most mobile and desktop platforms including Apple iOS, Android, BlackBerry OS 7, BlackBerry 10, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

The baiMobile 3000MP Bluetooth Smart Card reader supports standard ISO 7816 smart cards such as the Common Access Card (CAC) issued by the US Department of Defense and the Personal Identity Verfication (PIV) issued by other agencies of the US Government.

Support for other smart card types, such as the Gemalto .Net card, is also supported. This wireless solution (baiMobile 3000MP Smart Card Reader and baiMobile Smart Card Middleware) permits network or client applications residing on the device to access the credentials stored on the smart card to perform functions such as digitally signing and decrypting emails, and authenticating to secure web sites and network servers.

The reader also functions as a badge holder with the printed identification features of the card exposed for visual inspection as seen below.

The baiMobile 3000MP Bluetooth smart card reader recently received Bluetooth certification for BlackBerry 10 devices, including the Passport and Classic smartphones, based on testing by a DISA-approved independent laboratory.

The 3000MP had been previously certified for BlackBerry OS7, Apple iOS, Android smartphones and tablets.

“We are pleased to continue support for BlackBerry 7 devices and add support for BlackBerry 10 devices to service the huge installed base of BlackBerry smartphones within the US Government and internationally,” said Scott Johnson, BAI’s President.

“The baiMobile 3000MP is the only DISA-approved Bluetooth smart card reader available today with support for multiple operating systems, allowing simultaneous pairing with up to five different devices. We have worked closely with BlackBerry to ensure full security and compatibility for BlackBerry customers with our baiMobile 3000MP Bluetooth reader.”

Jeffrey Ait, Vice President and Head of U.S. Public Sector, BlackBerry said:

“With security and privacy as our cornerstone, BlackBerry has become a trusted partner to governments around the world that rely on our mobile solutions,”.

“The DISA approval for the baiMobile 3000MP provides government customers with two-factor authentication to meet U.S. Department of Defense requirements and ensure secure communications, while enabling them to be productive and collaborative using BlackBerry 10 smartphones.”
