Google Maps for Android brings Split-Screen Street View

Google Maps users will need to be on version 10.59.1

Google Maps for Android has received a split-screen street view feature, offering users the ability to see the route as well as the split screen view on the same screen. This split-screen ability is working on Google Maps for Android 10.59.1.

The new split view UI launches automatically when you open Street View after dropping a map pin. Meanwhile, if you’re accessing Street View directly from a location’s listing, it will be the regular full-screen interface. In those cases, you’ll notice a “minimize” button in the bottom-right corner.

Once in this split-screen Street View mode, users can see where they are on the map and the direction they are facing, simultaneously. This helps the user understand their location better. This feature reportedly works in landscape mode and in portrait mode both, but portrait orientation seems to be working better. Street View also offers place indicators, giving you an idea of the names of the places around you..

Split-screen is available in both vertical and landscape orientations. There’s also an Expand button—so that you go back to full screen if you prefer the old look.

Additionally, it is available on the desktop version of Google Maps. All you need to do is drop the yellow man on the bottom right corner into a part of the map you want. Then, Expand” the map on the bottom left corner.
