Cellhire launches full MVNO “eSIMsmart”’ and joins GSMA

The company’s full global roll-out will see eSIMsmart utilise a multi-IMSI, eSIM configuration using roaming IMSIs

Cellhire has launched its principal eSIM-based full MVNO, prior to a full global roll-out later this quarter, under the company’s “eSIMsmart” brand and becomes a member of the GSMA.

Cellhire B2B customers in France will be the first to take advantage of the company’s innovative approach to eSIMsmart’s data and voice solutions, which will become available to customers in the UK in the next few weeks.

As a full MVNO, Cellhire has built its own core network, has a French MNC [Mobile Network Code] and IMSI [International Mobile Subscriber Identity] range and has installed local PGWs [Packet Gateways] to ensure minimal data latency.

“Becoming a full MVNO, a mobile network and member of the GSMA is an important step for Cellhire with its long track record as a mobile telecoms provider to media [TV/ radio/ the press] and other businesses, and to major sporting events, around the world,” says Cellhire Group Technology Director Peter Whelerton.

The company’s full global roll-out will see eSIMsmart utilise a multi-IMSI, eSIM configuration using roaming IMSIs. To achieve maximum global network reach, Cellhire is working with new and existing network partners to add more MNOs globally.

Cellhire has carved out a niche providing SIMs capable of very large data volumes to business customers and for use in mobile broadband devices and IoT devices. As these devices modernise, using EUICC [Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card] SIM chipsets capable of receiving an over-the-air profile, eSIMsmart makes it possible to update customer needs remotely.

“The implementation of eSIM technology paves the way for our next evolution of forward-looking competitive domestic and roaming airtime products, while future-proofing our global distribution network for the delivery of over-the-air changes,” Whelerton adds.

Twenty months in the making, the MVNO project cements a long-standing relationship with Orange France that has enabled Cellhire to deliver market-beating data and voice SIMs across Europe for B2B customers. Initially using the M2M eSIM specification, Cellhire engineers developed an intelligent eSIM platform capable of pushing the right bespoke profile to deliver cost-effective voice and data as the SIM travels.

“The profiles use a Cellhire-specific combination of domestic, roaming and sponsored roaming profiles which can be provisioned over-the-air, direct to a customer’s SIM,” says Whelerton, adding:

“eSIMsmart leverages the power of Cellhire’s 30 plus years in the telecoms industry, its MNO relationships and global reach. Plus because each eSIM is delivered over-the-air it cuts logistics out of the loop and reduces SIM plastic waste, making it more environmentally friendly.”

For MNOs or MVNOs with a domestic IMSI, Sponsored Roaming IMSI or single/multi-country eSIM profile then eSIMsmart has the platform, global reach and flexible commercial terms to deliver your airtime in new and innovative ways through its partner channel.

eSIMsmart has developed a fully featured SIM Management Portal that is entirely backed by a partner-accessible API. It provides near-real-time visibility of all data and calls flowing through its core network, and the ability to deploy real-time control rules for SIMs.

Cellhire Chief Executive Officer, Martyn Stevens, says,

“The launch of the eSIMsmart brand is an incredibly important milestone for Cellhire. Being an MVNO gives us total control over the commercial offerings, tariffing and real-time visibility that customers require. Real-time visibility is vitally important in an area where Cellhire already excels – cellular IoT plans with large data bundles.

“Traditionally IoT devices use tiny amounts of data but there is a growing number of IoT devices that require much larger bandwidth, with different control mechanisms, which is where Cellhire’s industry-known Atlas SIM Management and Billing platform comes in,”

“The integration of eSIMsmart into the platform extends even further the real-time control and visibility Cellhire has of all data and calls flowing through its core network. The fully featured Atlas SIM Management Platform is entirely backed by a customer-accessible API.”
