Planet Computers showcases Gemini PDA at IFA 2018

Planet Computers today announced the Gemini PDA, a dual boot Android/Linux smartphone with a full physical keyboard, is being showcased at IFA 2018 – Hall 26, Stand 182.

Inspired by the iconic Psion organisers from the mid-1990s, the Gemini is the PDA for the 21st century. Available in both 4G and Wi-Fi-only models, the Gemini also has quad-boot functionality, providing users with the capability and freedom to run a number of different operating systems – including Android (both standard and rooted) and Linux – including Debian and Sailfish OS.

In recent months, Planet Computers has also launched the Agenda application for the Gemini PDA – available from the Google Play Store. Developed specifically for a landscape user interface (UI) and keyboard control, the Agenda app is packed with features, including: day, week, month and yearly view modes; multiple and shared calendars; anniversary reminders; email invitations via Google; the ability to use Google Maps to set locations for events; To-Do list creation and management; and a time-zone management function, enabling users to view their diaries in both their local time zone and the zone in which an event is taking place.

Gemini users also benefit from embedded eSIM technology, which means there is no longer a need for users to insert or remove physical SIM cards. Specified by the GSMA, eSIM information is rewritable by all network operators, allowing users to change operator with a simple phone call. A new SIM will not be required, and there is no time delay in switching the eSIM to its new purpose. The Gemini PDA is one of the first smartphones to adopt this new technology.

Dr Janko Mrsic-Flogel, CEO of Planet Computers, comments:

“2018 has been a successful year for the Gemini. Users around the world are now enjoying the benefits of the device – typing and creating content on the move, all with a PDA that fits in their pocket.

“Having recently opened our online store and launched the Agenda app – the first of many Gemini applications – we are looking to expand our customer base so more people can enjoy the device. Outside of the UK, Germany is one of our biggest markets so we would like to invite visitors at IFA 2018 to stop by our stand and try out the Gemini PDA.”

Gemini PDA was one of the most popular Indiegogo projects of 2017, raising more than $2.4 million in investment.

Available in a variety of different keyboard language layouts, the Gemini has raised more than $2.4 million in investment to date, with the first production units already shipped to backers.
