Apple’s 15 September event provided a wealth of new products and services, including the new eighth-generation iPad and new iPad Air, alongside the launch of the Apple Watch Series 6 and affordable new Apple Watch SE.
The company also unveiled Family Setup – a new feature built into watchOS 7 that allows for the setup of multiple Apple Watches though one iPhone.
Apple bills Family Setup as a way for “the entire family to benefit from the important health and safety features of Apple Watch, like Emergency SOS, while Maps, Siri, Alarms, and the App Store provide greater independence without needing an iPhone.”
The added benefit from the perspective of a parent is that this lets them keep tabs on their child’s/children’s location and they can even set up automatic location notifications so that they know when their kids have arrived at school (or the like) safely.
Family Setup is compatible with cellular models of Apple Watch Series 4 and up (including Apple Watch SE), running on watchOS 7; with 18 carriers across 12 countries supporting the feature globally at launch.
The Apple Watch is available on a personal paired plan or on EE’s new Family Member Plans with Family Setup which comes with a separate unlimited calls, texts and data allowance.
EE offers Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE on a wide range of data plans. Example plans include:
- Apple Watch S6 is available from £28 on a 24mth unlimited data plan
- Apple Watch SE is available from £20 on a 24mth unlimited data plan
With EE’s Family Member plan they can give them a separate number, so they can always stay connected.
Alternatively, customers already with an Apple Watch can take a 30 day 10Gb data plan for £7 to pair with their existing iPhone plan, or they can take a 30 day 10Gb data Family Member Plan for £7 with Family Setup and receive a separate unlimited calls and texts allowance.
Customers will be able to order Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE from EE beginning on 17th September. Support for Family Setup in watchOS 7, which allows kids and older family members of the household who do not have iPhone to enjoy Apple Watch, will be available on 17th September.
Customers will also be able to order the new iPad starting 17th September and register for interest in the new iPad Air.
Customers can also trade in an Apple Watch Series 3, Series 4 or Series 5 and save £100 on selected price points.
