Microsoft to acquire RiskIQ to Strengthen Cybersecurity

Microsoft is acquiring RiskIQ to uplift their users confidence in Microsoft’s security structure.

Microsoft is to to acquire RiskIQ – a global threat intelligence and attack surface management company, with the aim of aiding the company offer a better service to their users in security terms.

With this new service acquisition, Microsoft users would get “a more comprehensive view of the global threats to their businesses, better understand vulnerable internet-facing assets, and build world-class threat intelligence.”

According to Microsoft, with this acquisition, RiskIQ will help the company’s customers to discover and assess the security of their enterprise attack surface.

Microsoft is announcing that we have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire RiskIQ, a leader in global threat intelligence and attack surface management, to help our shared customers build a more comprehensive view of the global threats to their businesses, better understand vulnerable internet-facing assets, and build world-class threat intelligence.

San Francisco-based RiskIQ makes cloud software for detecting  security threats, helping clients understand where and how they can be attacked on complex webs of corporate networks and devices. Its customers include Facebook Inc., BMW AG, American Express Co. and the U.S. Postal Service, according to the company’s web site.

Known for its annual report on security called the  “Evil Internet Minute,” RiskIQ has raised $83 million from firms like Summit Partners and Battery Ventures, according to Crunchbase. It was founded in 2009.

Commenting on the deal, RiskIQ co-founder and CEO Elias Manousos says that adding RiskIQ’s attack surface and threat intelligence solutions to the Microsoft security portfolio will “enable best-in-class protection, investigations and response against today’s threats.
