Apple launches Apple Watch Series 6 service program

Apple says affected users are "a very small percentage"

Apple has launched a new global service program for 40mm Apple Watch Series 6 units that are experiencing a fault where the display of the watch turns blank permanently.

Apple says affected users are “a very small percentage”, with the company inviting users to send their device back to Apple or visit an Apple Authorized Service Provider for a free-of-charge repair.

Apple says the fault is limited to models of the 40mm Apple Watch Series 6 that were manufactured between April 2021 to September 2021, with users able to check if their wearable is eligible for the service program by visiting Apple’s webpage, where a serial number check  will show which models qualify for the complimentary repairs.

Apple says the program covers eligible Apple Watch Series 6 models for two years after the first retail sale of the unit.

Apple has determined that the screen on a very small percentage of 40mm Apple Watch Series 6 devices may go blank permanently. Affected devices were manufactured between April 2021 to September 2021.

If your Apple Watch Series 6 has exhibited this issue, please use the serial number checker [on Apple’s website] to see if your device is eligible for this program.

If so, Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will provide service, free of charge.

The program is open worldwide. As the blank screen issue is limited to the 40mm Apple Watch Series 6, no other Apple Watch models are eligible for this program.
