BT and Nokia are to trial Open RAN technology in the city of Hull, UK, where BT will install Nokia’s RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) for Open RAN, across a number of sites, to optimise network performance for customers of its mobile network, EE.

Adam Crozier
Adam Crozier will succeed Jan du Plessis as Chairman of BT Group. Adam will join the Board as an independent non-executive director and Chairman Designate with effect from 1 November 2021 and will become Chairman with effect from 1 December 2021

With the number and impact of cyber attacks continuing to increase rapidly, BT has taken a multi-million pound stake in Silicon Valley cyber risk management firm Safe Security, underlining its ambition to target growth in the sector, the company said on Wednesday.
Broadband
BT’s social tariff, Home Essentials is now available for customers to buy online. Announced back in April, BT Home Essentials is exclusive to those on Universal Credit and a range of other means-tested benefits, the package offers fibre broadband and calls for £15 a month, saving customers £240 a year compared to an equivalent package.

BT has launched a new business unit to serve the millions of UK firms which are either small by design or just starting up. Together with the launch of the UK’s first ‘unbreakable’ Wi-Fi for micro-businesses - which delivers guaranteed coverage across the workplace, full fibre speeds of up to 900Mbps and free tech expert support – the new unit will help the UK’s smallest firms to rebuild and get set for growth.
BT Sport TV Streaming
BT has launched BT TV Box Pro, the TV platform’s most advanced set-top box. The sleek new box is designed to support the next generation of TV viewing, with the features including crystal clear 4K HDR viewing and Dolby Atmos offering a complete immersive experience. BT has also rolled out a new user interface to new and existing BT TV customers giving them more intuitive control.
Nokia
EE is deploying Nokia’s Self-Organizing Network (SON) software solution to enhance network reliability and service in its 4G and 5G networks, as part of a new vendor deal. With Nokia SON, EE can overcome network complexity to create flexible solutions that better manage its network, as well as automating operations across diverse eco-systems to minimize and address network issues more cost-efficiently.
Connected
BT pledged today to increase its fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) target from 20 million to 25 million by December 2026. In the last year Openreach passed a record 2m premises with FTTP and now believes that it has the capability to reach around 4m premises a year.
BT Group
BT is planning to develop a brand new, multi-million pound contact centre in Dundee which will become the new home to around 1,000 employees. The new office will be at West Marketgait in the heart of the city centre, close to the waterfront and part of a £1bn regeneration area.
BT Skills for Tomorrow Milestone
BT has reached its original goal of helping 10 million people across the UK to improve their digital skills, five years ahead of schedule. Key to achieving this milestone was the success of BT’s Top Tips on Tech campaign in partnership with ITV, which helped 5.7 million people learn vital new digital skills required during lockdown.

BT is working with Cisco to introduce new collaboration tools aimed at helping UK firms to bounce back stronger following the Covid-19 pandemic. With hybrid working models becoming the norm and 87% of employees in the UK hoping for a choice in working location as restrictions ease, BT is making hybrid working easier and more productive for small businesses by adding Cisco Webex to its Cloud Voice solution.

BT is to launch BT Home Essentials in June, a new social tariff connecting those on low income with affordable fibre broadband and calls. The new low cost tariff comes as BT research reveals that since the pandemic, almost three quarters (74%) of Brits would not find it easy to improve their financial situation without connectivity.

BT has unveiled BT Halo 3+, the latest innovation in BT’s convergence story, offering what BT says is the UK’s only unbreakable wi-fi connection for the home backed up by the EE mobile network.
Nokia
Nokia has extended its long-term strategic relationship with BT into the 5G arena, following its selection as a 5G RAN vendor for the UK operator. As part of the deal, which will make Nokia BT’s largest equipment provider, Nokia will provide equipment and services at BT radio sites across the UK
RNLI
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and BT have formed a new strategic supplier partnership that will support the lifesaving charity’s aim of defeating drowning. BT has committed to supporting the charity for the next five years through supplying a new communications service and entering a partnership to develop innovative new technologies to help save lives.
The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability in Putney, London
The Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability (RHN) in Putney has enlisted BT and start-up firm Microshare to introduce a smart Internet of Things (IoT) solution to help automate routine tasks to enable staff to spend more time with patients, and residents, and to reduce energy costs.

EE and BT are planning to re-open its retail stores from the 15th June as part of a phased roll-out. After an enormous amount of hard work, a range of measures will be enforced in stores to make customers and colleagues feel safe.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned "misleading" advertisements from BT and O2, following complaints from rival companies and members of the public.

BT has announced that it will launch 5G mobile network services in 20 towns and cities across the UK this Friday (October 11). They include Cardiff, Birmingham, Belfast, Bristol, Coventry, Leicester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Manchester, Liverpool, Hull, Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle.
BT Glasgow Clydeside
BT today made its formal submission to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, seeking approval for the proposed acquisition of EE. The company has said the acquisition will be good for competition, investment and innovation in the UK - and that consumers and businesses will benefit as a result.

BT has agreed to buy EE, the UKs largest mobile phone network, in a cash and shares deal worth £12.5 billion. The deal, which BT said would create the UK's leading communications provider, will be partly financed by a £1 billion share issue.

BT has announced that, further to its statement on 24 November 2014, it has entered into an exclusivity agreement with Deutsche Telekom and Orange in relation to BTs possible acquisition of all of their UK mobile business, EE. The period of exclusivity will last several weeks allowing BT to complete its due diligence and for negotiations on a definitive agreement to be conclude
