Prisma Labs finally officially rolled out Prisma for Android a few hours ago and the company has quickly followed up with its first update.
The app, which until now has only been available for iOS, does the job of transforming photos into artworks with the help of the styles of famous artists: Munk, Picasso in addition to world’s great ornaments and patterns.
The foundation on which the app runs is based out of a combination of neural networks and AI (artificial intelligence) that allows transforming pictures into art paintings.
The app is a far cry from standard photo filtering offerings like Instagram, with the app’s various filters being able to intelligently identify various objects in your photos, and render accordingly. That’s because photos are processed by the app’s remote servers, as opposed to your phone, in order to bring the full force of cloud-based AI to your images.
The updated version of Prisma adds a “save” button that lets you export directly to your gallery, as opposed to another app through Android share intents. Tapping it immediately saves the photo to the “Prisma” folder on your phone’s internal storage.
Interestingly enough, there is literally nothing that Prisma for Android cannot do as compared to its iOS counterpart. The Android app works great with all functionalities that exist on iOS. Users get to play around 30 filters that make the ultimate transformation of pictures possible.
The app still doesn’t support incoming Android share intents, so to load a photo into Prisma in the first instance, you’ll always need to start the app and navigate to the image you want.
