It would be fair to say that EE has not had too much luck with their Power Bar promotion. Back in August this year, EE recalled Power Bars belonging to a batch named E1-06, conceding that the bars pose fire safety risks due to overheating.
Today, the company has issued a voluntary recall of ALL of its Power Bars, saying that it has received what it calls “a very small number” of reports of the battery overheating which could cause a fire risk, and it has decided to play it safe.
EE are asking everybody to stop using their Power Bars and unplug them from their phones or tablets, and the mains. You should return the Power Bar to an EE store as soon as you can.
Back in august, the urgent recall impacted over 500,000 customers across the country and this number will now be in the millions.
The company issued the following statement.
“We’re recalling all EE Power Bars. This is just a precaution, but we want to make sure all our customers are safe.
If you have a Power Bar, you should stop using it straight away and hand it in to one of our stores.
We are taking this action because we are aware of a very small number of further incidents where Power Bars have overheated in circumstances that could cause a fire safety risk.
Keeping our customers safe is extremely important to us, and that’s why we’re taking this voluntary and precautionary action.”
As a gesture of goodwill, EE is once again offering £20 vouchers to all affected users to spend on accessories in the meantime.
EE are not stating whether users will get a replacement power bar this time around or not.
