BlackBerry needs to win back customers’ confidence says India MD

BlackBerry’s new India managing director Narendra Nayak says his first task is to win back customer confidence while rebuilding the business.

Nayak is creating a new enterprise sales channel and entering new segments like healthcare and automotive for its products.

In his first media interview since taking over, Nayak told ET,

“We honestly lack the skill sets in the enterprise side,”

“We are hiring people possessing skills to sell software like QNX, and on BlackBerry Technology Solution side.”

The company is also re-skilling the existing workforce that was earlier focused on the smartphone business.

While not giving any specific hiring targets, Nayak said it is more about business achievements.

“It is not about just bringing in people but it is an entire business plan of how do we go to market, how do we support our clients. Earlier, our support was more focused towards devices and not software,”

“We are repositioning ourselves as a true enterprise software company. A lot of things that we have done globally in the last 15-16 months will start showing results in 2016. We will be able to see tremendous impact even in India,”

He added that BlackBerry’s device business has almost stabilized and will focus mainly on enterprise software customers.

“On the enterprise side, there are many customers who still buy a lot of BlackBerry devices,” he said.

The company will launch its latest Android-powered handset Priv on January 28 in India.
