Apple Watch Series 7

UK Apple Watch owners can finally use an eSIM on Three

The £7 per month plan is available for free for the first six months

It’s only taken them five years but Three UK is finally offering an eSIM for Apple Watch with a new £7/month plan.

Like most operators, Three’s deal requires that you have an existing iPhone subscription with the company – your iPhone also needs to be on the network. If that’s you, you’ll be able to access the Smartwatch Pairing Plan.

You also need to have the Apple Watch GPS + Cellular model in order to get the full benefits of the eSIM.

It finally brings Three up to speed with O2, Vodafone and EE, which have offered eSIMs for some time.

Smartwatch Pairing Plan

The £7 per month plan is available for free for the first six months, and makes use of the data allowance of your iPhone.

To enable this on your Apple Watch, you should do the following, assuming you are on Three.

  1. Go to the smartwatch app on your phone and follow the instructions to pair it with your watch. You’ll also get prompted to activate cellular, which you need to be able to call and text on your watch.
  2. Activate your Smartwatch Pairing Plan if you bought it with a phone and watch bundle. If not, set the plan up now.
  3. Once you’re done, it should take around 30 minutes for your phone to pair with your watch, but it may take a little longer.

When Mobile Data is setup, you’ll be able to continue to make and take calls and access apps using mobile data on your Apple Watch. Essentially, you’ll be able to leave your phone at home.

Apple added cellular support to its Apple Watch in 2017 with its Apple Watch Series 3, so it has taken Three quite some time to get the feature implemented.

You can pair the Apple Watch GPS + Cellular model with iPhone 6s, or above on Three. You’ll need iOS15 – or later – installed on your iPhone
