Android Pay

Android Pay officially launches in the UK

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Android Pay is now officially available in the UK. You will be able to use Android Pay everywhere contactless payments are accepted, including your favorite places at which to shop and eat every day, such as Boots, Costa Coffee, Waitrose, and more.

You can also tap and pay as you go across London on the Tube, buses and trains, using Android Pay with Transport for London (TfL).

Google will also be launching Android Pay Day, bringing special offers each month to brighten the last week before pay day. Starbucks UK and Deliveroo will be among the first to reward Android Pay users in the UK and more offers will roll out in the months to come.

Android Pay is a mobile wallet that can store your credit cards, debit cards, loyalty cards, etc. If that sounds a lot like Google Wallet, it’s because Android Pay is the new Google Wallet (only it’s supposed to be better, more convenient, and secure).

Install Android Pay on any NFC-enabled Android device (KitKat 4.4+). Then add your credit and debit cards from any participating bank.

Your actual card number isn’t shared with the merchant when you use Android Pay. Instead, a virtual account number is used so that your card details stay safe. After paying, you’ll receive transaction details to help you keep track of your spending activity.

Since your phone can be used to pay when it’s unlocked, Android Pay requires you to have a screen lock set up. And if your phone is ever lost or stolen, you can lock your device from anywhere using myaccount.google.com.

To best protect your info, Android Pay isn’t supported on rooted devices. This is because Google can’t verify that the Android security model is intact on a rooted device.

Android Pay’s killer feature though is its compatibility. While Apple Pay is restricted to newer devices, any Android phone running version 4.4 KitKat or higher with an NFC chip inside will work fine. That instantly puts OnePlus Two users out, but the majority of recent Android phones all have NFC, meaning mobile payments should now be accessible to more people than ever before.
