Facebook officially release Slingshot app

Facebook have released their competitor to Snapchat and it is now officially available for Android devices in Google Play.

Features:

  • Stay in touch: Capture photos and videos of moments you want to share with friends
  • Go shot for shot: To unlock new shots, first you have to sling something back
  • Enjoy it while it lasts: Once you swipe a shot away, it’ll no longer be viewable
  • Send a quick reply: After unlocking a shot, respond with your reaction
  • Get creative: Express yourself with captions and drawings
  • Look when you want: View unlocked shots later if you’re busy

Slingshot is definitely Facebook’s answer to Snapchat, but it does go beyond that when you receive a message. In order to view a ‘shot’ that’s sent to you, the recipient must send one back first. While this doesn’t really make sense when comparing Slingshot to other apps similar to it, it does make sense to Facebook who refuses to call it a messaging client.

Slingshot lets you easily integrate into your Facebook account, and find friends that may have downloaded the app, and invite others that haven’t. The UI is a lot more polished than anything Snapchat has pushed out, and the interactions and animations are fluid and show no lag whatsoever.
