BlackBerry has today rolled out the March 2018 Android Security update to BlackBerry Android devices. The Android Security Bulletin contains details of security vulnerabilities affecting Android devices.
BlackBerry have rolled out an update to their Productivity Tab for Android, bringing the ability for users to see content from their social accounts in the BlackBerry Hub Tab. Strangely, the changelog shows a new addition of being able to "Add widgets to the Productivity tab", something that the app introduced back in October 2017.
Google has today announced Android P, which won’t get a real name or version number at the moment due to the fact that this is an early baseline build for developers only. Like Android Oreo, the P release doesn’t come with a lot of major feature additions. There are several notable additions, and then a massive number of small tweaks and API changes for developers.
Facebook has implemented video chatting in Messenger Lite, a slimmed down version of Messenger for Android that offers the core features of the app while giving everyone the opportunity to stay connected to their friends and family, intended for people with older Android devices and/or slower Internet connections.
Back in August of last year, BlackBerry revealed that the company was in talks with various global smartphone makers to provide its version of a secure Android operating system under a licensing deal as part of the second phase of its licensing strategy. Apple has released an update to Apple Music for Android bringng music video enhancements and bug fixes. Specifically, the updated Android app allows users to watch video content in fullscreen, as well as in the Now Playing section of the app.
Last month, Google announced the Android Enterprise Recommended program, highlights the best Android phones in Google's opinion for people in the business/enterprise space. The program launched with 22 devices from a variety of manufacturers, with Google stating that more devices will be added over time.
BlackBerry has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Facebook and its companies WhatsApp and Instagram for their use of instant messaging. The lawsuit alleges that Facebook "created mobile messaging applications that co-opt BlackBerry's innovations, using a number of the innovative security, user interface, and functionality enhancing features.
Google has released the March 2018 Android Security Bulletin. Partners have had access to the warnings in this month's bulletin for at least a month or so. The March bulletin has two security patch levels .
MomentCam Hong Kong has released BBMoji, an app allowing users to create customised emojis and "expressive and funny stickers of yourself" and your friends on BBM. Interestingly, BBMoji appears to be a companion app for the consumer version of BBM, as the app states that in order to use it, you need to have have the latest version of BBM installed.
BlackBerry have released an update to their DTEK app for Android, bringing divided event-tracking into background and foreground events and separate notifications for background and foreground events. In addition, the update brings the usual UX improvements & bug fixes.
