Microsoft today unveiled Windows 11, the first major update to the platform since the launch of Windows 10 nearly six years ago. Windows 11 features a cleaner interface and pushes further toward a mobile-friendly environment inspired by shifts to how PCs have been used amid a COVID-19 pandemic forcing many to work remotely.

BlackBerry trimmed its net loss to US$62 million in the first quarter of its fiscal year despite lower revenues. The company, which reports in U.S. dollars, says it lost 11 cents per share in the three months ended May 31, compared with a loss of $1.14 per share or US$636 million a year earlier.

BlackBerry has launched the BlackBerry IVY Advisory Council, a new invitation-only body comprised of leading companies across the transportation and mobility industries that will help shape and advise the BlackBerry IVY development community and the vertical-specific services and automotive applications that will be brought to market using BlackBerry's Intelligent Vehicle Data Platform, BlackBerry IVY.
AWS
Amazon has launched AWS Wavelength, an AWS infrastructure that enables enterprises and developers to build ultra-low latency applications that can be delivered via the Vodafone 5G network. Amazon says that by embedding AWS compute and storage services at the edge of 5G networks, “AWS Wavelength enables software developers to serve edge computing use cases like machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), and video and game streaming.”

Shareholder advisory company Glass Lewis has urged BlackBerry investors to vote against Prem Watsa as lead director, arguing that he should be held accountable for an executive compensation plan that isn’t in shareholders’ interests. Glass Lewis recommended investors withhold support for Prem Watsa who chairs BlackBerry’s compensation committee.
