Google Assistant Ambient Mode Rolls Out To More Devices

Google is rolling out its Ambient Mode feature for Google Assistant to more Android devices. The Ambient Mode feature for Google Assistant was announced at IFA 2019. During the launch, the feature was available only on two tablets – Lenovo Smart Tab M8 HD and Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab and a couple of handsets smartphones, including the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2.

Unlike the Always-on Display (AOD) found in many smartphones, the Assistant ambient mode for phones offers a few more benefits: starting a playlist, displaying your Google Photos, controlling your smart home devices without unlocking the device, and showing a clear overview of your events, calendars, reminders, and notifications.

While your mobile device is charging on a nightstand, living room table, or kitchen counter, it can still help you stay on top of your day. Google Assistant’s Ambient Mode is a new visual overview that makes it easier to see notifications and reminders, start a playlist and control smart home devices on the lockscreen of your device.

When you’re done, your screen will turn into a personal digital photo frame linked to your Google Photos account to add another personal touch.

Ambient Mode is listed as an option that can be toggled on within Google Assistant’s settings alongside things like personal suggestions and getting personal results on the lock screen. Users report seeing a notification that alerts users to the new feature and encourages them to set it up.
