Virgin Media O2 removed charges for data use in Ukraine Friday, covering customers on O2 Pay Monthly, O2 Pay as you Go, Virgin Media O2 Business customers, Virgin Media home phone customers, and giffgaff customers.
BT, EE, Three and Vodafone have quickly followed suit, waiving charges on calls, texts and data to and from Ukraine so that being in contact with anyone in the Ukraine completely free.
BT have made all calls, texts and data to Ukraine free. The company stated:
“For anyone wanting to contact loved ones in Ukraine, we’ve made mobile and landline calls, texts and data to and from the region free from today, 25 February.
“Please be aware that signal in the area might be affected by damage to local networks and equipment
In a statement, EE confirmed that any calls, texts and data to and from Ukraine will be free from February 25.
“For anyone wanting to contact loved ones in Ukraine, we’ve made calls, texts and data to and from the region free from today, 25 February.
“Please be aware that signal in the area might be affected by damage to local networks and equipment.”
Vodafone are waiving charges for calls and text messages and roaming from February 25 until March 2.
In a statement Vodafone said:
“These are distressing times in Europe. While Vodafone doesn’t have any employees in Ukraine, our thoughts are with all of those affected by the war.
“For our customers, we want to help in the way we know how. So effective immediately and over the next five days from all of our VF operations across Europe, we are offering free roaming for any of our customers who remain in Ukraine.
“In addition, we are implementing free calls and text messages for Vodafone customers and Vodafone colleagues trying to get in contact with family and friends in Ukraine.”
