Google releasing SDK for Android Wearables

Google SVP Sundar Pichai yesterday spoke at the SXSW conference, explaining that Google will be releasing an SDK that will make it easier for companies to create wearable devices that run Android. Pichai mantioned that Google was thinking of wearables on a “platform level”, so this may indicate that Google may also be producing wearables.

With the SDK, Google hopes to standardize how those sensors relay information to Android devices, which should hopefully mean developers will opt for Android based devices instead of creating custom operating systems.

Pichai said that he sees a parallel between the evolution of the smartphone ecosystem and the wearable ecosystem, saying that while smartphones are becoming small computers, wearables are becoming sensor hubs.[signoff predefined=”Enjoy this?” icon=”icon-users”][/signoff]
