The fallout from the United States ban on Huawei is now having its first major effect on upcoming smartphones from the Chinese company in the UK. EE and Vodafone have announced that they have pulled Huawei’s phones from their 5G network launch, joining other global telecoms groups in dropping launch plans after the Chinese group was hit by a US export ban that could stop it using Google’s Android operating system.

Vodafone is to launch their 5G service in seven cities across the United Kingdom on July 3 at current pricing levels. The operator says it will also offer 5G roaming in Germany, Italy, and Spain later in the summer.

O2 and Vodafone plan to extend the existing network sharing partnership term and include 5G at joint radio network sites. This would enable both O2 and Vodafone to deploy 5G faster, to offer 5G services to more customers over a wider geographic area, and to do so at a lower cost.

The ZTE Axon M is coming to the UK, bringing its two 5.2-inch displays, one of which folds out from the rear of the device. The Axon M has been available in the US since November, but Vodafone UK has now confirmed that the device will be available in the UK "soon".
