Huawei has launched a new generation of 5G mobile antennae, anticipating an acceleration in the pace of network upgrades led by the three operators in the Chinese home market. Huawei has pioneered the development of Massive MIMO - or multiple input and multiple output - antennae that feature arrays of transmitters and receivers to run fifth-generation mobile services.
O2 has confirmed it will launch its own 5G network this year. Chief executive Mark Evans said O2 is "committed to launching 5G this year" and is "excited" to show customers the new experiences it can offer.
The fallout from the United States ban on Huawei is now having its first major effect on upcoming smartphones from the Chinese company in the UK. EE and Vodafone have announced that they have pulled Huawei’s phones from their 5G network launch, joining other global telecoms groups in dropping launch plans after the Chinese group was hit by a US export ban that could stop it using Google’s Android operating system.
EE
EE has switched on 5G in twelve new UK locations, taking the number of towns and cities with access to the operator’s 5G network to 112. The firm’s new data network is now available in Aberdeen, Aldershot, Barrhead, Blackpool, Castleford, Crawley, Mirfield, Oxford, Porthcawl, Shipley, Stafford and Warwick.
