5G
Three is giving customers all the freedom they need to use 5G whenever and however they wish without worrying about any hidden or extra costs as the company announced that all new and existing customers will have access to 5G with no speed caps and at no extra cost on all contract, SIM only and PAYG mobile plans.
O2 5G
O2 has announced that they will be switching on their 5G network in October 2019, beginning with areas of Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, Slough and Leeds. By the end of the year, they’ll be live in 20 towns and cities and rolling out to a total of 50 by summer 2020.
IMImobile
IMImobile has announced it has conditionally agreed to acquire US-based mobile engagement and RCS Business Messaging leader 3Cinteractive. The acquisition allows IMImobile to increase its footprint in North America and become the global market leader for RCS (Rich Communications Services) Business Messaging.
AT&T and Microsoft have entered into a major multiyear cloud/5G deal where Microsoft will be the preferred cloud provider for non-network applications, as part of AT&T's broader public cloud first strategy, and will support AT&T as it consolidates its data centre infrastructure and operations.
Outage
Facebook is was working to resolve issues faced by some users while sending and receiving media files on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The outages appear to be connected to US cybersecurity firm Cloudflare which has been affected by an outage at telecommunications provider Verizon.
During GSMA’s MWC19 Shanghai, 5G commercial networks have been officially launched inside the Shanghai New International Expo Center. The deployments are based on Huawei's 5G digital indoor system and extended 5G coverage to all of the seven exhibition halls. This was the first MWC event to offer 5G commercial services, supporting the event’s theme of Intelligent Connectivity.
EE has launched its 5G mobile broadband plans, making it the first UK carrier to do so. The company isn't pitching its latest 5G offering as a replacement for home broadband but that is likely due to the fact that 5G availability is limited at the moment.
LG
To advance the deployment of its connected and autonomous vehicle technology, BlackBerry is expanding its partnership with LG. Under the new agreement, LG will use BlackBerry QNX software and services to build digital consolidated cockpits, including infotainment systems, digital instrument clusters, and telematics systems for multiple OEMs.
Huawei has unveiled a new midrange chipset, the HiSilicon Kirin 810. It’s based on the same 7nm design as the Kirin 980, which powers Huawei’s P30 Pro and other flagships.
EE
EE  is now allowing more services to be streamed without eating into users' monthly data allowances. From today, anyone with a Video Data Pass can stream and download anything from the BBC iPlayer and YouTube without fear of running out of internet access.
Ericsson
With 5G deployments rapidly gathering momentum globally, Ericsson has launched new software and hardware solutions to expand 5G deployment options. The new solutions extend network capacity and coverage, enabling smooth network evolution, and facilitating new consumer and industry use cases.
O2 has confirmed it will launch its own 5G network this year. Chief executive Mark Evans said O2 is "committed to launching 5G this year" and is "excited" to show customers the new experiences it can offer.
O2 is now offering the cellular version of the Apple Watch. When Apple first launched an LTE version of its Watch (with Series 3) it exclusively partnered with EE. Vodafone connectivity was added at the end of last year and now O2 customers can get the smartphone on the company's custom plans.
Rolling out to Android phones in the United States, beginning today, Google Assistant will be fully integrated into Waze so users won’t have to tap on their screens to get things done. Many of Waze’s most popular features will be supported, such as reporting traffic jams, calling out potholes, and checking for alternate routes.
Three UK
Three has announced it will launch its 5G network in August, but it will only be available in London as a home broadband service. Three 5G home broadband customers will be able to plug a hub into the wall to immediately become connected, without lengthy engineer wait times or a long-term contract.
EE launched its 5G network in six cities in the UK today. The commercial launch has been rolled out in London, Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester. It will then be launched in 10 additional cities later this year - including Bristol, Coventry, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield.
The fallout from the United States ban on Huawei is now having its first major effect on upcoming smartphones from the Chinese company in the UK. EE and Vodafone have announced that they have pulled Huawei’s phones from their 5G network launch, joining other global telecoms groups in dropping launch plans after the Chinese group was hit by a US export ban that could stop it using Google’s Android operating system.
Vodafone 5G
Vodafone is to launch their 5G service in seven cities across the United Kingdom on July 3 at current pricing levels. The operator says it will also offer 5G roaming in Germany, Italy, and Spain later in the summer.
Google Assistant
Along with its new “entry-premium” smartphones, the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, and changes to the upcoming Android Q, Google announced a list of changes to its popular virtual assistant, Google Assistant. To start with, Google says it has made its assistant faster—up to ten times faster.
Broadband
EE has announced that its broadband prices are rising on June 26, with an average increase of £2 per month. Customers who signed up with EE or upgraded their account before February 29 will be affected. However, if you’ve signed up with EE since then, you won’t have to pay these higher costs.
EE
EE have launched a new service which promises a smarter way for customers to enjoy their mobile phone contract. The new Smart Plans offer some valuable perks, including a lifetime guarantee on the handset while in contract and an annual check up of the device and contract by an EE expert.
EE will be testing a 5G-powered WiFi at Glastonbury this summer. It will be the first time this technology is used at a UK festival and comes ahead of it being rolled out to other cities and events later this year.
IMIConnect Salesforce
IMImobile has made its enterprise cloud communications platform IMIconnect available on Salesforce AppExchange. Salesforce users will now be able to quickly launch and orchestrate two-way, trigger based customer communications across more than 10 channels including SMS, WhatsApp, Apple Business Chat, In App and Push, amongst others.
Verizon
In addition to adding BlackBerry Cylance’s artificial intelligence (AI)-based endpoint security products to its managed security services portfolio, Verizon further added to its security portfolio with an acquisition of ProtectWise.
QNX BlackBerry
Integrated Computer Solutions (ICS) will offer BlackBerry’s QNX software and services to its broad embedded customer base in the Americas. ICS joins the BlackBerry QNX Distributor & Value-Added Integrator (VAI) Program, a worldwide network of value-added integrators and distributors, and reseller experts trained on QNX technologies.
BlackBerry recently completed its acquisition of Cylance, and the company has been recognised as a leader in five distinct categories at the 2019 Cybersecurity Excellence Awards Best Cybersecurity Company, Most Innovative Cybersecurity Company, Endpoint Detection and Response, Endpoint Security, and Best Cybersecurity Podcast. The acquisition is BlackBerry’s largest ever and will see Cylance operate as a separate business unit within BlackBerry’s business.

O2 has announced it will begin the rollout of its 5G network this year in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London. Other areas of the UK will enjoy rollout from 2020 to coincide with the wider availability of 5G handsets.

Vodafone has switched on 5G at Manchester Airport, becoming the UK's first 5G connected airport. The company switched on 5G at Manchester Airport as part of an ongoing trial - with other locations set to follow suit within weeks.
Google has a new mode of storage encryption called Adiantum that is made specifically to run on phones and smart devices that don’t have the specialised hardware to use current methods to encrypt locally stored data efficiently.
TomTom
TomTom and Microsoft are expanding their partnership, bringing TomTom’s maps and traffic data into a multitude of mapping scenarios across Microsoft’s cloud services. With this broadened integration, TomTom will be a leading location data provider for Microsoft Azure and Bing Maps. TomTom is also expanding its relationship with Microsoft, selecting Microsoft Azure as its preferred cloud provider.
5G
O2 and Vodafone plan to extend the existing network sharing partnership term and include 5G at joint radio network sites. This would enable both O2 and Vodafone to deploy 5G faster, to offer 5G services to more customers over a wider geographic area, and to do so at a lower cost.

Verizon
Verizon and Samsung plan to bring one of the first commercial 5G smartphones to market in the first half of 2019. The companies will unveil a proof of concept, powered by the upcoming flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform with the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem and antenna modules with integrated RF transceiver, RF front-end and antenna elements, at the annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit in Maui this week.

Mazda has announced that its 2018 Mazda 6 mid-size sedan will soon be Apple CarPlay- and Android Auto-compatible = and retrofittable. Beginning in September, dealers will be able to retrofit Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature trim levels of its mid-size sedan with a kit that adds Apple and Android compatibility to the automaker's built-in infotainment system.
