Cruise and General Motors have entered a long-term strategic relationship with Microsoft (MSFT) to accelerate the commercialization of self-driving vehicles. The companies say that they will will bring together their software and hardware engineering excellence, cloud computing capabilities, manufacturing know-how and partner ecosystem to transform transportation to create a safer, cleaner and more accessible world for everyone.
Mission critical software company Deep3, formerly Deep Sky Blue, announced today its change in name to reflect the increasing level of insight and expertise required by its national security customer base, including the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and MOD's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl).

EE  is now allowing more services to be streamed without eating into users' monthly data allowances. From today, anyone with a Video Data Pass can stream and download anything from the BBC iPlayer and YouTube without fear of running out of internet access.

Partnering with the Scottish Government, the Home Office and WHP Telecoms, EE has connected locations, including Tarskavaig (Skye) and Glencripesdale to its high-speed 4G network, with Killilan (Lochalsh) and Polbain (Wester Ross) due to be connected this summer.

EE has announced that its broadband prices are rising on June 26, with an average increase of £2 per month. Customers who signed up with EE or upgraded their account before February 29 will be affected. However, if you’ve signed up with EE since then, you won’t have to pay these higher costs.

Three UK launched its 5G service in London earlier today, promptly causing EE to file a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) claiming that its slogan, "If it's not Three, it's not real 5G", is misleading. EE is seeking a ban on the ads because they clearly imply that alternative networks' 5G are inferior by comparison.
EE has launched its 5G mobile broadband plans, making it the first UK carrier to do so. The company isn't pitching its latest 5G offering as a replacement for home broadband but that is likely due to the fact that 5G availability is limited at the moment.

BT’s mobile business, EE, has finalised new 5G spectrum holdings following the conclusion of the second, assignment stage of Ofcom’s auction and will start to launch some of the new spectrum into the 5G network immediately. EE won 80MHz overall of the 700MHz and 3.6GHz bands that were on offer in the auction.

EE today launched a new Smart WiFi home broadband service, designed to boost the WiFi coverage in every room of a customer’s home. The new Smart WiFi home solution includes a new Smart Router, Smart WiFi Discs and inclusive 4GEE WiFi Mini.
EE launched its 5G network in six cities in the UK today. The commercial launch has been rolled out in London, Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester. It will then be launched in 10 additional cities later this year - including Bristol, Coventry, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield.

EE is launching three services to keep its mobile customers online, including when their monthly data allowances run out. The network will offer a free Stay Connected service as of 7July 2020, which will allow its pay-monthly customers to keep using the internet for free when they’ve used up their data allowances.

EE is zero-rating data across its mobile network this Sunday so football fans don’t miss a moment of the Euro 2020 football final. When it counts, EE and BT Mobile customers, including EE SME customers, will enjoy free data from 6pm-midnight on Sunday 11th July to stay connected, whether that’s to stream the game, message their friends or whatever they choose.

EE is switching on 4G on the London Underground for the first time as part of TfL’s 4G pilot on the Jubilee Line. The Transport for London (TfL) pilot will bring 4G connectivity to millions of customers on the eastern half of the Jubilee Line.

EE has switched on 5G in twelve new UK locations, taking the number of towns and cities with access to the operator’s 5G network to 112. The firm’s new data network is now available in Aberdeen, Aldershot, Barrhead, Blackpool, Castleford, Crawley, Mirfield, Oxford, Porthcawl, Shipley, Stafford and Warwick.

The fallout from the United States ban on Huawei is now having its first major effect on upcoming smartphones from the Chinese company in the UK. EE and Vodafone have announced that they have pulled Huawei’s phones from their 5G network launch, joining other global telecoms groups in dropping launch plans after the Chinese group was hit by a US export ban that could stop it using Google’s Android operating system.

Based on deployment practices and 5G research conducted by Huawei, network operators, and industry partners, the white paper elaborates on eight applications with market potential and suitable for large-scale commercial adoption.

Nokia has been selected by leading Finnish mobile operator Elisa as the nationwide supplier of 5G RAN. Nokia, which will provide its AirScale 5G RAN portfolio, will deliver enhanced ultra-fast, low-latency mobile broadband services to both consumer and enterprise customers.
KDDI
Japanese carrier KDDI has selected Ericsson and Samsung for the deployment of a next generation 5G network in Japan. Ericsson said that it has been selected by KDDI as the primary 5G vendor. Under the agreement, Ericsson will supply KDDI with Radio Access Network equipment, including products and solutions from the Ericsson Radio System portfolio.
